Advanced Beginner Computer Training

BCC's Workforce department will offer an Advanced Beginner Computer Training course starting on Monday Feb. 24, 2025.

  • Course will be taught in English with Spanish language support.
  • Classes will be held every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. virtually.
  • Ten seats are available.

Curriculum overview: The course provides an in-depth exploration of core Microsoft Office applications, enabling participants to build proficiency in tools essential for personal and professional productivity. With a blend of foundational knowledge, intermediate techniques, and advanced features, the curriculum emphasizes practical applications to ensure participants gain hands-on experience. The curriculum includes:

  • OneDrive: Participants will master file and folder management, including creating, editing, importing, exporting, and organizing files. The course also covers sharing functionalities, such as internal and external sharing, permission settings, and tracking shared content for effective collaboration.
  • Outlook: This segment focuses on professional email communication, covering folder organization, privacy settings, and email management techniques. Participants will learn about internal and external sharing capabilities, as well as tools for setting up filters and organizing inboxes efficiently.
  • PowerPoint: Trainees will delve into intermediate PowerPoint skills, including custom template creation, designing cohesive themes, and incorporating visuals like charts, graphs, animations, and videos. Additionally, they will explore advanced features such as generative AI for custom images and best practices for creating engaging presentations.
  • Word: This module equips participants with comprehensive word processing skills, from basic file handling to advanced formatting and collaboration tools. Key topics include styles, hyperlinks, track changes, and design themes. Practical tips and tricks, such as reducing eye strain and recovering unsaved files, enhance the learning experience.
  • Excel: Participants will develop foundational and intermediate skills in Excel, covering navigation, cell formatting, and essential functions like SUM, VLOOKUP, and IF. Advanced features such as PivotTables, macros, and VBA for automation are also included, alongside productivity tips like creating dropdown lists and freezing panes.

The curriculum is designed to ensure participants not only understand the technical functionalities of these applications but also develop the ability to apply them effectively in real-world scenarios. By the end of the course, learners will be well-equipped to manage complex tasks, collaborate efficiently, and leverage Microsoft Office tools to their fullest potential.

In addition to the training, we will be providing the following services:

  • Regularly scheduled virtual office hours
  • One-on-one meetings with our Career Services Advisor
  • Small group trainee services that emphasize communication, teamwork, time management, and interpersonal skills
  • Trainee enrollment, including account and device setup
  • Microsoft Office accounts for each trainee for the duration of the course and for three months following completion
  • Microsoft Teams for virtual instruction and office hours
